Can you believe it? We are already starting our third week of school this week - wow! And the students are still doing so very well.
As you may recall, here in the art room we have been working on our projects to wear or carry to our annual Reading Celebration on September 10th. If this even is new to you, please watch for more information from your child's classroom teacher. This year our students are "Reading Detectives" and we helped make giant magnifying glasses and "Reading Detective Badges" last week in class.
This week in Art class we are embarking on one of my favorite subject which will lead to many of my favorite (and some new) activities. I love the children's author and illustrator, Eric Carle. I even had a chance to visit the Eric Carle Picture Book Museum while in the New England area this summer. I'll share some pictures with the students. :o) We will review our color words (in English and Spanish) while we read a favorite, Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? I'll introduce the color wheel to the Kindergarten students and review with the first graders. Students will color their own color wheels. I am sharing two websites with the students that they might mention to you. I am only touching on a few things while at these websites, I'd like to encourage you to check them out and share more with your child. The first one is: www.brownbearandfriends.com and www.eric-carle.com .
What a great turn out we had at Open House last week. We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you spending some of it with us. Last night I mentioned that I keep a blog of what we are working on in class and/or pictures from around the Primary Center. Click on this link to take you there. www.strokesofart.blogspot.com if this link doesn't take you there you can also copy and paste it in your browser.)
Below you will find description of my classroom expectations and my grading policy. During the first week in art class we will spend time discussing these expectations and practicing our procedures. We will be well rewarded throughout the year for the efforts we put into practicing our procedures and expectations during these first few weeks.
Please know that if you ever have any questions or concerns I am only an email or phone call away.
